Mother’s Day is celebrated in many ways across the world, but everywhere it shares the same meaning: a moment to pause, come together, and honour the women who nurture, support, and shape our lives.
In the UK, Mother’s Day is known as Mothering Sunday, a tradition that began centuries ago as a day to return to your “mother church.” Over time, it gently evolved into the warm family celebration we know today, a chance to reconnect, gather around the table, and spoil Mum just a little.
At Doost & Amici, we have been proud to celebrate Mother’s Day here in Kennington for the past 26 years, welcoming neighbours, families, and familiar faces back year after year. For us, it has always been about community, shared meals, and making people feel at home.
While Mothering Sunday is uniquely British, the idea of honouring motherhood is far older and wonderfully international.
Across cultures and centuries, mothers have been celebrated as life‑givers, caregivers, and the heart of family life. In parts of Europe and the Mediterranean, Mother’s Day is marked in spring with flowers, long lunches, and time spent together. In ancient Persian culture, long before modern calendars, women and mothers were honoured through festivals that celebrated nurturing, patience, and the life‑giving role of Mother Earth itself.
Different dates, different traditions — but always the same sentiment: gratitude, love, and togetherness.
To mark Mother’s Day weekend, we have created a special way to celebrate around the table.
